Web development for designers

Your design, built exactly — and your client can edit it themselves.

I turn finished Figma, XD and Sketch designs into custom website code. If your client needs to update the site, they get their own simple editor for texts, images and pages — while the layout you designed stays protected. No WordPress, no page builder, no monthly fee.

  • Custom code your client owns
  • Editor optional, no subscription
  • Answers usually the same day
Illustration of the client editor: a list of pages and blocks on the left, a live preview of the page in the middle with the selected hero block outlined, and a panel on the right with fields for heading, text, image and button, a note that layout, fonts and colours are protected, and a version history. The top bar has a desktop/mobile toggle and a Publish button.
The handover

Your client edits the content. Your design stays yours.

Most custom-coded sites can’t be edited by the client, so every typo becomes a support request. WordPress can be edited — but it brings themes, plugins and fees, and over time the layout drifts. The editor sits in between: it only exposes what should change.

What your client can change

In a visual block editor, without code

  • Texts and headingsTyped straight into the page, with a live preview.
  • ImagesReplace a photo; it lands in the slot you designed for it.
  • Pages and block orderAdd pages, and add or reorder blocks taken from your design.
  • Mobile and desktop separatelySmall layout tweaks for each, so a long heading can be handled on a phone.

What stays protected

Your design lives in the code, not in a settings panel

  • TypographyTypefaces, sizes and line heights as you set them.
  • Colours and spacingNo colour pickers, no padding sliders, no “just make it bigger”.
  • Grid and componentsBlocks are built from your design, so new content still looks like your work.
  • States and behaviourHover, focus, error and empty states stay as designed and built.

Versions and undo

Every change is saved as a version. Something went wrong? Restore the previous one.

Personal accounts, 2-factor login

Each editor gets their own login, secured with a second factor — no shared passwords.

Not WordPress, no monthly fee

A lightweight editor of my own. No plugins to update, no licence to renew. And it’s optional.

Why this setup

Custom code and an editor — usually you get one or the other.

Option A

Custom code only

  • Built exactly to the design
  • Fast and lean
  • Every text change needs a developer
Option B

WordPress or a page builder

  • Client can edit
  • Themes, plugins and updates to look after
  • Subscriptions and licences
  • Layout tends to drift with each edit
With me

Custom code + its own editor

  • Built exactly to the design
  • Client edits content, not the layout
  • No theme, no plugins, no monthly fee
  • Client owns all source code and can take it to any host or developer
Process

From your file to a site your client can run.

Questions come before code. You see progress the whole way, not just at the end.

  1. 1

    You send the file

Figma, XD or Sketch, whatever you designed in.

  2. 2

    I check it first

Gaps and missing states get flagged before anything is built.

  3. 3

    The pattern page

One page built in full first, so we agree on the details early.

  4. 4

    All pages and states

The rest of the site, plus the editor blocks if it has one.

  5. 5

    Handover

Uploaded to the host, or delivered as files. Your client owns the code.

Watch it come together on a private preview

During the build, the current state lives on a password-protected preview address. You and your client can look in at any time, without me sending screenshots back and forth.

Good to know

Small on purpose.

Mika Engineering is one person in Schwerte, Germany. Web development is a deliberately small side business — which means you talk to the person who builds your site, and I can say no to projects that don’t fit.

Timing

Answers usually the same day. Builds happen mostly in the evenings and at weekends — plan with that in mind, and I’ll give you an honest timeline up front.

Hosting and maintenance

Possible as a separate agreement. Your client’s own hosting works just as well — the code isn’t tied to me.

Pricing

Fixed quote per project after I’ve seen the design. [price from …]

What I need from you

The design file, any states or breakpoints you’ve already drawn, and a note on what the client should be able to edit.

Contact

Have a finished design that needs building?

Send the file or a link, tell me whether your client needs the editor, and roughly when it should go live. I’ll look at it and come back with questions — or with a clear no if it isn’t a fit.
