Hello. Let me be straight with you.
You send me the design. I build it into a website you own.
I turn finished Figma, XD and Sketch designs into custom website code. No WordPress, no page builder, no theme, no plugins, no subscription. You get all the source code and can take it to any host or developer.
- Designers & design agencies
- Custom code, yours to keep
- Optional editor, no monthly fee
- Replies usually the same day
01 · Who's on the other end
One person. On purpose.
Mika Engineering is me, in Schwerte, Germany. Web development is a deliberately small side business, next to my 3D printing and engineering work.
That means you won't be handed from sales to a project manager to a developer you never meet. You write to me, I read your design, I build it, and I'm the one you ask when something isn't right. No photo, no team page. Just a clear way of working that you can check before we start.
02 · Scope
What I do, and what I don't.
Saying clearly what I don't do saves us both a call.
If your project needs something from the right-hand column, I'm not the right person, and I'd rather tell you now than halfway through.
I do
- Build your finished design as custom codeEvery page and every state in the file, responsive, without a theme or page builder underneath.
- Check the file before I startI look for gaps and missing states (hover, empty, error, mobile) and flag them before building, not after.
- An optional editor for your clientMy own lightweight CMS, if the site needs to be edited later. No WordPress, no monthly fee.
- Hand over everythingUploaded to a host or delivered as files. The source code belongs to you.
- Hosting and maintenance, if wantedAs a separate agreement. Your own hosting is just as fine.
I don't
- Design workYou or your studio bring the design. I build it and ask when something is unclear, but I don't invent the look.
- Online shops or booking systemsThose need different tools and a different kind of support than I offer.
- SEO campaignsClean, semantic markup, yes. Ongoing ranking and marketing work, no.
- 24/7 supportI answer during the day and fix things promptly, but there's no on-call hotline.
- WordPress themes or pluginsNot as a base, not as an add-on.
03 · How it runs
Five steps, no surprises.
The order is always the same, so you know where we are at any point.
- You send the fileFigma, XD or Sketch, plus anything I should know: fonts, content, deadlines.
- I check it and flag gapsMissing states, unclear breakpoints, things the design doesn't answer yet. You get a short written list before any building starts.
- The first page, as the patternI build one page completely. Once you're happy with it, it sets the standard for the rest.
- The other pages and statesEverything else follows the pattern, including hover, error and empty states.
- HandoverUploaded to your host, or delivered as files. Your code, your choice of where it lives.
You can watch it come together.
During the build, progress is visible on a private, password-protected preview address. Open it whenever you like, share it with your client, and comment on the real thing instead of screenshots.
04 · If you need it
An editor that isn't WordPress.
If your client wants to change texts and images themselves, I add my own lightweight editor. If not, you simply get the code.
- Visual block editor for texts, images and pages
- Versions and undo, so mistakes are cheap
- Personal accounts with 2‑factor login
- Separate layout tweaks for mobile and desktop
- No monthly fee, no plugin updates
- Stays within your design, so the site keeps its look
05 · Availability
When I answer, and when I build.
I'm honest about this because it shapes timelines.
During the day
I answer.
Emails usually get a reply the same day, in writing, so you have everything on record.
Evenings & weekends
I build.
Most of the building happens then. Plan for that, and I'll give you a realistic date up front.
06 · Why small
Small enough to say no.
I don't need every project. That's the point.
Staying small means I only take on work that fits: a finished design, a clear scope, a client who wants to own the result. It means I'm not juggling ten builds at once, and it means that when I say yes, I mean it.
If your project doesn't fit, I'll tell you quickly and plainly, so you can find the right person without losing a week.
07 · Past work
What I've built so far.
Client names stay private. Here's what the projects were.
- Machine shop websiteWith the editor, reusable page templates and an enquiry form that accepts drawing uploads.Editor · Templates · Upload form
- Training academy websiteBilingual, German and English, with the editor so the team keeps course pages current.DE / EN · Editor
- My own 3D printing businessThe site for my other line of work, at mika-engineering.de.Own project

08 · Fit check
Is this a fit?
Tick through the list. If most of it is true, we'll probably work well together.
- You have a finished design. In Figma, XD or Sketch, ideally with mobile and desktop.
- You want to own the result. All source code, no lock-in, free to move host or developer.
- You're fine with written communication.Email and comments on the preview rather than weekly calls.
- Your timeline has some room.Building happens evenings and weekends, planned honestly from day one.
- It's a website, not a shop.No online store, booking system or SEO campaign needed.
- You don't need round-the-clock support.Same-day answers on working days are enough for you.
Not sure about one of them? Write anyway. I'll tell you honestly whether it works.
09 · Contact
Send me the design. I'll tell you what I see.
hello@What helps in a first message
- A link to the design file, or a few screens
- Roughly how many pages and templates
- Whether your client needs the editor
- When you'd like it live
What happens next
I'll look at the file and reply in writing, usually the same day: whether it fits, what's missing, a realistic timeline and a quote.
